God, the outdoors and me!

Mon, Oct 15 2007 - 07:54 AM

It's Monday October 15th and 5:00 AM, and sleep does not come easy for this elk hunter, this week many will be traveling to the great state of Colorado for a hunt of a lifetime. These hunters will come from Michigan, North Carolina, Canada, Indiana, Arkansas and Colorado. I can bet most of these guys are thinking about the hunt as well and not having much sleep to boot. Elk hunting brings out the little boy in most of us, its like waiting to open presents on Christmas morning. The night before t...

There here!

Tue, Oct 16 2007 - 07:13 AM

The boys are starting to show up, the Michigan boys and Arkansas crew are here. Two more days and we are on our way to the high country. We will check out the trailer today, get last minute items for camp. I wonder how God will bring each of us together, relationships are very important. In the COFA hunts relationships can be a lifetime friendships. Cards sent Christmas, birthdays remembered, phone calls checking in to see how each other is doing. I once heard that men have very few friends in t...

Well, its hard to believe tomorrow morning (Thursday) we leave at 5:30 AM. The boys from Canada will be here later on in the afternoon, Dave will fly in this morning from Indiana, its all coming together. Several of the guys loaded the trailer yesterday with tents, ATV's, supplies and lots of other gear. There are men coming in from North Carolina, and Nebraska today as well. I think about our COFA hunts over the years and I look back in American history and have read about hunting camps from th...

The Elk Hunt

Fri, Oct 26 2007 - 08:17 AM

Well, the hunt is over and the guys are on their way back home. This year's hunt was a great one in many ways. The hunting in itself was very good, making new friends was wonderful. We had 19 guys in camp. Many very successful elk hunters, many fine deer hunters, and the fellowship, well that was mighty nice. The friends that were made this year were some of the best. Guys who had just met pitched in to help carry out someone else's elk, and in bad weather and up steep mountain sides. True frien...

Sleep does not come easy..

Sat, Oct 27 2007 - 10:26 AM

I still cannot believe that I have a hard time sleeping. The hunt is over, the tents are put away, the gear I brought into the house is packed and ready for next year. So, why can't I sleep? Many reasons come to mind, I am still thinking about the bears that came into camp during the dinner hour. The mountain lion that decided to scream and scare one of our hunters. The high winds and heavy snow didn't matter. I have wondered if its the nice king size bed that I sleep in, is it keeping me awake?...

Why I hunt!

Fri, Nov 2 2007 - 16:35 PM

Why I hunt! That is a fair and good question, I have often pondered that question, many times while sitting at my stand, and more often then not, climbing to my stand on a side of a mountain, exhausted, sweaty, and my muscles screaming at me, what do you think you are doing? I must admit and agree, what am I thinking? As I sit at my elk stand overlooking the most beautiful valley, and then it hits me, the lay of the land, the aspens and their golden clusters of autumn leaves, the fir trees decora...

Christmas is here with fond memories.

Mon, Dec 24 2007 - 09:18 AM

It's hard to believe, Christmas is almost here, and elk and deer are in the back meadow. I haven't even started shopping yet. I will take care of that is a few hours, but I wonder how many of us really know the meaning of Christmas.I can remember when we had just moved to Schwienfurt Germany one December (my dad was in the army). I was 5 years old at the time, I saw the highly decorated Christmas tree, the presents, and could smell the cookies that my mom would bake every Christmas. I wanted to ...

22 Years ago today

Fri, Apr 25 2008 - 09:05 AM

Today is a day that brings sadness and joy in my life. My dad passed away 22 years ago today on April 25, 1984. My dad was a Colonel in the army. Fought in World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam. He was a big influence in my life, a man who loved his country and his family. I looked up to my dad. I have many fond memories of him. When in high school, I came to trust in the Lord and was the only one in my family at the time to do so. I shared my faith with my friends at high school, but was embarrasse...

Hunting, Fishing and COFA's website and forum

Fri, Apr 25 2008 - 09:07 AM

The website is growing and many are using it to broaden their hunting and fishing skills and make new friendships with others. I get many PM's from people who have made some great friendships on the forum, and want to share it with me. Many pastors will e-mail me just to talk about hunting, as many men in their church hunt and they want to know more about the mind set of the guys that they rub elbows with in church and that have a passion for hunting. From the forum we will get many men and wome...

Well, its about that time, with the colors on the trees, yellows, reds, orange, its simply beautiful. We had snow yesterday, just enough to get you excited about opening morning of elk hunting. I have had several calls from guys coming out to the hunt, how's the weather, have you seen any elk, what calls should I buy? Typical excited hunters phone calls. I love hearing from these guys, they have so much enthusiam for hunting and being in Colorado.   If you want more information about the...

Peace, be still

Thu, Oct 30 2008 - 18:44 PM

Peace, Be Still  Today's Scripture “Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm” (Mark 4:39 NKJ). What do you do when the storms of life seem to be raging against you? One time Jesus was with His disciples in a boat out on the water when they encountered a great storm. The disciples were very afraid, but Jesus on the other hand, was fast asleep. When the disciples woke Him up to see if He could he...

Hunting in Colorado

Sat, Nov 1 2008 - 09:52 AM

Well, the hunt is over. It was a great hunt camp, both spiritually and getting elk and bear. When we plan for these camps, we have many folks praying and many helping plan and organize the hunt. One of the biggest parts of planning is the team work that is needed to make the hunt happen. This year we had a man in elk camp from Wisconsin who made a commitment to trust in the Lord and follow Him. This man has been prayed for the minute he agreed to come on the hunt. All the men that hunt at...
