I've stayed with my .223 Savage through the years and found it to be the most versatile for my hunting purposes anyway, and I'm hunting mostly coyote and bobcat. I'm sure most varmint hunters have their own favorite calibers and there's a good selection to chose from. I've found the .223 caliber to have pretty good knock-down energy and reload 68 and 75 grain bullets depending on altitude. My particular Savage with a 1:9 twist will take up to a 100 grain bullet and deliver an accurate shot. I've recently changed bullets from a Speer to a 'Swift Scirocco' Spitzer BT in my 75 grain load, and would consider it one of the better hunting bullets available for any caliber and game. _________________ "Be Blessed and stay prayed-up". |
