Bio: Wilbur L. (Grizzly) McCormick
Life and love of the outdoors started for Wilbur, or Grizz, before he was a year old. To his family living in rural southern Ohio, hunting and fishing was not a sport, but a way of life. The wild outdoors furnished many tasty supplements to the dinner table in those WW II days. His father, grandfather, and uncles all took him in the field and forest and taught him the ways of the wild critters and a respect for their lives. "God created them for us to use, so if you don't intend to eat it, don't shoot it" was the rule that governed his early life as a hunter and fisherman. "It is my desire to use my later years of life to pass on to the new generations those truths about God's great and wonderful creations taught me in those early years," he states.
Wilbur lives just outside Jackson, Ohio with his wife Carolyn. They have one daughter who also lives in Jackson with her husband and three children. Before moving to their present home they owned and ran a farm where they became known throughout Ohio as breeders of fine Simmental cattle.
Wilbur and his wife are both retired from the public education system of Ohio with over 68 years of teaching between them. Wilbur did his undergraduate work in Secondary Education with a major in History, and graduate work in Vocational Administration. Over the past years, he has served as a rifle instructor for NRA and BSA (where he got the name of Grizzly), LRT commander for CAPUSAF, Ohio Wing and Fire Chief of the local fire department.
Currently, Wilbur serves on the Chief's Council for the Scottish clan, Maclaine of Lochbuie, sings in the church choir, local barbershop chorus, a barbershop quartet, and serves as music director for the local men's harmony chorus. Before moving membership to the Wesley United Methodist Church, he served as Associate Pastor to the local Christian Church. At Wesley, he serves as a Lay Speaker, Communications Director and Editor of the newsletter in addition to being the adult advisor to a youth group known as "God's Outsiders".
Working with COFA in Ohio will be yet another way to minister to God's people, and pass knowledge of Him to others by using His great creations.
